OSB
What is OSB ? The full name of it is Oriented Strand Board. It’s s type of engineered lumber similar to particle boar. It is a board formed by wooden flakes, oriented in 3 layers perpendicular to each other, mixed with phenolic and polyurethane adhesives pressed at high temperature and pressure.
Let's take a look at the process. Preparing materials, cutting materials. There are many kind of raw materials can be used, such as poplar, pine and combine materials. Then the materials will be dried. The moisture content usually be controlled between 2% to 12%. Next, gluing these materials and continuous forming. According to customer’s requirement, the grade of glue, we usually use E1 Grade or E2 Grade. To make them firmer, there need some pressure. So pre-pressing and hot pressing are all necessary. At this point the main processes are about complete. The rest part, there need cooling and sawing.
Although the process is simple, it has many advantages. First, tight construction and high strength. Second, minimum twisting, decontamination or warping. Third, no rotten or decay, strong against corrosion and fire. Forth, water proof, consistent when exposed in the natural or wet environment. Fifth, low formaldehyde emission. Sixth, good nailing strength, easy to be sawn, nailed, drilled, grooved, planed, filed or polished. Seventh, good heat and sound resistant, easy to be coated.
Because of these advantages, it is used in household, package, furniture, residential and commercial construction field, and so on. Gradually, OSB became inseparable from People's Daily life.
