As we know, wood comes in different forms for processing. We usually get this type of wood in the form of sheets. A few of the commonly-used forms are plywood, MDF (medium-density fiberboard) and OSB (oriented strand board).

And for them, there are different production processes and uses:

Plywood:

Production Process:

Plywood is made of three or more layers veneer materials, rotary-cutted or sliced from wood, which normally in odd number veneer layers, sticked by glue, and the adjacent veneer fiber direction perpendicular to each other.

Application:

1. Plywood used for interior decoration, room furniture, packing decorate, etc;

2. Exterior plywood finds use in external walls;

3. Also have marine plywood for building boats and use it in a marine environment.

Advantage:

a. Uniform Strength

b. Easy to cut

c. Available in large sizes

d. Reduces wastage

e. Versatile and durable

f. Cost-effective

MDF:

Production Process:

MDF is an engineered wood product made by breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals into wood fibres, often in a defibrator, combining it with wax and a resin binder, and forming panels by applying high temperature and pressure.

Application:

1. MDF can be used as a building material

2. suitable for shelves and cabinets, speaker boxes, and flooring.

Advantage:

a. Cheaper than plywood

b. Smooth with no knots

c. A suitable substrate for veneer

d. Consistently homogenous

e. Easier to cut than plywood

f. Possible to create decorative edges with a router

OSB:

Production process:

OSB, also known as flakeboard, is a type of engineered lumber similar to particle board, formed by oil removing, drying, adding adhesives and then compressing layers of wood strands(flakes) in specific orientations.

Application:

You can use OSB board in flooring for a cost-effective flooring solution or as a sub-floor under a layer of hardwood flooring or vinyl flooring. We also use it for roof sheathing and furniture. Unlike with plywood, you don’t need to paint it or apply any top layer – you can use OSB directly for making furniture, and it provides an elegant finish to the surfaces.

Advantage:

a. Versatile material

b. Consistent density

c. Cost-effective option

d. Pliable material, OSB has a greater load-bearing capactity than milled wood panels.

e. OSB panels have no internal gaps or voids, and are water-resistant.

These all information on plywood, MDF and OSB Board, if you can any demand on them, welcome to inquiry.
